IN-BOND MOVEMENTS

  • When cargo needs to move from one location to another without duty payment, the cargo, carrier, and the cargo location need to be bonded with a customs bond. There are three types of in-bond entries that can allow the cargo to move to another bonded location without duty payment.
    • IT (Immediate Transfer)
      • IT entries allow the cargo to move from one city to another city in terms of customs territory. For example, if the cargo has to move from Los Angeles, CA to Chicago, IL, IT entries need to be filed so cargo can move to a bonded freight location via bonded carriers.
    • IE (Immediate Exportation)
      • IE entries allow the cargo to be re-exported out of the United States. The IE entries do not allow the cargo to move from one city to another city, therefore, the cargo needs to be re-exported from the same city.  For example, if a shipper sent cargo to the Dallas, TX mistakenly, obviously there is no importer for the cargo in the United States.  The mistakenly shipped cargo can be re-exported out of the United States using the IE entries via bonded carrier through Dallas, TX, not anywhere else.
    • T&E (Transportation & Exportation)
      • T&E entries are similar to IE entries. While IE entries do not allow cargo to move from one city to another, T&E entries do.  For example with same IE situation, the cargo can move from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles, CA for re-exportation.
